Best way to deal with bad workmanship on gable end?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.48 PM
Deteriating gable end slates were replaced with 'plywood' and wrongly coated in interior undercoat, by cowboy. Paint now peeling. Told PVC won't work. How can the wood by weatherproofed, bearing in mind that water will be entering between the concrete and the wood? Best solution gets the job. Exeter. Also, how long before plywood rots when exposed to rain?

Sorry to hear you've been stung, it's very hard to grasp a full understanding of how the work has been done given the explanation. Do you have any pictures of the work?

I would remove the timber and replace with PVC panels as I cannot see how this won’t work as they are fixed in the same way as shiplap timbers or on battens.
If this really isn’t possible I would sand down the timbers at present until the varnish has been removed and apply two coats of Sadolin or similar to provide a long lasting finish
