Is moving my Vaillant Ecotec boiler down by aound 6 inches a big expensive job?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

I need to move my boiler down around 6 inches lower than it is at the moment so I can reposition the flue to go out through different wall, while being hidden by a new kitchen cupboard. Is this a big expensive job? It seems as tho all it needs its the pipes trimmed and then re attached to the boiler, but ive been told the past that moving boilers is very expensive.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

it depends, has to be 300mm away from any opening. you may need a new flue, yes you may trim pipe but all job is different. much cheaper than installing

you may need a new flue, and it's very difficult to price a job like this, without seeing it As gas engineers, we come across this type of jobs especially when people building new extensions I think in your case, your movement is not very expensive good luck anyway

Hi Having your boiler moved 6 inches below, you must consider the following before you have the works completed. Always use a competent gas safe registered engineer. The engineer should advise you on if any restrictions or new regulations for the new location. The decommissioning process will follow. All electric supply and room thermostat connections will need to isolated and removed. Gas supply disconnected and made safe. The flue has to be disconnected from the boiler and need to be removed from its current location. Flue may get damaged if it’s cemented around going through wall therefore you may need a new flue. Once the flue is removed in damaged then it may require new flue seals. All the service valves below the boiler will need to be disconnected and removed. Any central heating filter, lime scale filter, external filling loop will also need to be removed. Once the boiler is taken off the wall, all the supply pipes will need to be trimmed including, central heating flow and return, Gas, cold water supply, hot water pipe, pressure relief valve and condensate pipe. Once the boiler is installed in its new location the gas engineer will need to commission boiler and carry out necessary checks according to the manufacturers specifications and gas safe regulations. Depending on the age and condition of the boiler, your boiler may need to be serviced or the central heating system may need full power flushing depending the result of test sample. After the initial inspection has been completed your gas safe registered engineer should be able advise you on whether your current boiler is financially viable to be moved as the cost of labour charge will be as if your installing a brand new boiler. The installation process will be same as installing a new boiler. I hope this advise will help and good luck.

You can lower the boiler but make sure you are still within regs ie 300mm from any opening, you may need to replace the flue depending on the situation, the boiler will need recommissioning before it’s put back into service. Thanks

It won't be cheap as you will need a new flue kit or an extension at the very least Also it really depends on the actual location ,how the pipes are arranged etc etc Best of getting ppl around to give you prices but would be in the same line of pricing as a boiler swap
