Moving single gang socket to create double gang

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

Hi, I have a single gang socket in my utility room that I’d like to move about 60cm vertically. Happy to have surface mounted double gang box as end result rather than any chasing. Is it just a case of fitting a junction box at existing point, extending with new wire, fitting trunking and a wiring up the new socket? If so I’d appreciate advice on thickness of twin core, and possibly which junction box, connectors to use. Any regs issues to be aware of? Many thanks.

Hello. By the nature of your question, I would get someone suitably qualified to do this. Yes, there are a lot of regs issues to deal with.... 1. Is the circuit Rcd protected 2. The type of circuit you have in place at the moment ring, radial. 3. How are you going to dead test/ live test/test the Rcd ( if you have one ) for tripping times. 4. Issue a certificate.
