Bathroom Fitting

4 months to wait for someone to start my bathroom

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.55 PM

How long is it usually to wait for a tradesman to actually start a job. Refitting tiling and fitting a shower into a very small bathroom. I've agreed a price bought the furniture for mine but the plumber has kept putting me off another week here and there. This has been going on now for 4 months. Said her start Monday but now cant and wont give me another start date. I'm getting fed up. In November I thought I'd have a new bathroom not by christmas but at least by end of January ??? Is this normal???

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This certainly isn't normal behaviour from a reputable company. There should be a solid date in place after the price is decided. I do however realise previous jobs can run over which could slightly alter the start date but not by months that you are describing!!! hope this helps pal.

It isn't acceptable to wait that long for your bathroom, a month maybe but 4 months isn't. You need to find a different plumber

It sounds like you should find another installer. Any decent tradesmen will stick to his/her dates so that they can plan more work for the future. 1 -2 months should be the maximum time if they are in demand and worth waiting for. I hope this helps.

The wait time with any trade just depends on how busy the tradesman is and how many jobs he has booked in already , if he had agreed a date with you and now keeps changing it it sounds like he has put your job on the back burner and is putting new jobs in front of yours I personally would just invest in another quote from someone else and get a new tradesmen to do the job

Most good companies are book months in advance and sometime due to unexpected changes like weather or problems on jobs there could be a knock on effect on start dates but I wouldn’t expect a four month delay on a start date. Have a discussion with your fitter and explain that you understand there is more to life than your job. But you want a start date and him to stick to it. Good luck. I hope you get sorted out.

If he can't do it in the agreed time frame, find someone who can. He maybe fully booked, he maybe employed full time and only do part time private jobs, He may not be in the right place in his own life to commit to a bathroom. It's difficult to say. But you can find someone who can within the next 2 months

You could always tell him to politely go away and get someone else to do it?

Waiting months beyond an agreed start date is not normal, you've been very patient waiting that long. For a busy bathroom fitter/plumber, most jobs have a 4-6 lead time from agreeing the project with the customer, but once a convenient start date is fixed, there shouldn't be any delays. The previous jobs sometimes have unexpected issues that add delays. These can overrun into your next job, but by days or a week, not months. If start dates are continually missed and another can't be given, that's not good customer service. It's time to look around for a new reliable fitter.

Hiya, unfortunately there are a lot of cowboys around. Greedy traders everywhere, go and find another one. I did my bathroom refurbished in three weeks( knocking down existing walls, rip off all old plaster and changing layout and then install all new )

Good afternoon. NO this is not normal you should both agree on a date that suites both parties and the bathroom fitter/tiler should put this date in his/her diary. Some jobs do over run but not to the extent of time you have states. I highly reccomend you source a new person to take on your work.
