What are the best metal fixings to fix plastic trunking to a wall?
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.54 PM
Hi, I'm aware that all plastic trunking and cables have to be fixed to the wall using metal fireproof fixings and clips to stop cables falling away from the wall during a fire. My walls are built from solid brick and very hard air bricks. Can anyone suggest a suitable screw, fixing or plug that will comply with the current regulations so I can fit the trunking and metal cable restraints. And do the regulations also apply to wall mounted pattresses and sockets? As always, many thanks in advance. Simon.

Screws & rawlplugs for trunking normally. Only if the trunking is in an escape route do you have to use metal fixings to the structure etc, to prevent collapse of cables in the event of a fire. Dont know what you mean by does it apply to switches & sockets? Think you may be over-thinking this. The cables have to be secured through the trunking with metal fixings thereby if the trunking melts ( which it would) the cables held by the metal fixtures stay in place.

Hi
Basically all escape routes, above, along, doors, windows, hallways, stairs.
Metal raw-plugs must be used, myself i use builders band, reason comes in long lengths, it doesn't have sharp edges, and can be cut to lengths required, and cheaper than offered by companies trying to make easy money, from Part P requirements.
As with sockets, switches, same principle.
Reason for new regulations since Jan 2019, fire brigade had issues with cables obstructing access into and out of buildings.

The best way is to use DeWalt Walldog Screws 32mm White CSK Head .
The screw must be used with SAFE-D 50 Fire Rated Cable Clips not only in the fire escape route .
For the back boxes of the sockets and switches you can use the same Screw .
