Tarmac Drive in to a Garden
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.54 PM
Hi im wanting advice on turning my tarmac driveway in to a lawned garden. Is it possible to turn our existing tarmac drive in to a real lawned garden? Do we either have to fully dig up existing drive then build up to turf level or can we leave the tarmac in place and lay a new raised lawned garden on top of the structure? Help would be appreciated

Hi there, the tarmac would have to be dug up back to earth then rotavate new high quality topsoil into the earth to build the area back.

Yes it is possible but I would advise you to dig up the tarmac first and make sure you have a good type 1 sub base for drainage before adding top soil

Dig up the whole lot otherwise there’s no room for plant roots and no proper drainage either

Yes this is definitely possible to turn into lawn area but I would definitely excavate old tarmac area till you reach soil then infill again with good quality soil to the height for you would need compact as it will sink in future if not then give it another level and apply turf
