Ask a questionNew Build
Proximity to neighbours bedroom window
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.54 PM
We have outline planning permission for a small detached bungalow which we would now wish to make bigger. A new property has been built next door and they have put a downstairs bedroom window where our bungalow would be built. Whilst we have not put any of our windows on the side adjacent to their new house, we need to ask how far distance we would need to be away from this window as our land is quite restricted at this side. This window falls within the middle of our entire plot.

If you look in your local area's residential design guide it will give you distances between windows. They vary according to aspect and room type.
Without knowing your location or seeing the actual plans that's as far as I can help unfortunately.

There is no as such rule that the distant has to be at certain meters. Technically one can not have side habitable window. So the person who has built will be at loss. However ideally 2-3 mts of kept would not block his window completely
