Moving tv socket/aerial

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.54 PM

We've just purchased a Victorian house and the tv socket is in the wrong wall. We would like to move the socket to the fireplace alcove next to the front windows. The wall here is made of bricks. Currently the socket is on the other side of the room in the wall which separates the living and dining rooms. Think this is a stud wall. Extra info: The floor has wood flooring and the aerial outside is located at the front of the house on the first floor (so the same side of the house as the new location for the socket). Hope all this makes sense, is there a way to minimise the damage to the wall? Thanks in advance

Hi. There is a few ways of doing it without damage to the building fabrics such as surface mounted accessories A qualified electrician on site could provide you with the best advice and also a quote for it all. I hope this will help.

The simple answer would be to fit new coax cable to the Aerial and run it down the wall outside to a point where you can drill a 10mm hole through the wall to the desired location for the aerial socket. Remember to seal the hole to avoid damp.

If its going on the external wall, you could do away with the existing aerial point and fill it it. Then tap off the incoming point, conduit outside, back entry into the new point with a surface mounted pattress that could be hidden behind the new tele. Hope that helps.

Common sense really. It's not a mains voltage cable so isn't covered by building regs. It's a matter of getting from a to b. If you think it's beyond your skillset then by all means hire an electrician.
