We are looking at purchasing a converted bungalow that has two dormer windows in the master bedroom at the rear of the property. We would like to join the two dormers to increase the ceiling height in the room. The dormer roofs are tiled and we envisage that we would simply join these two roofs and have one long window. The current gap between the windows is 2m. Is this a big job?! We have submitted an application for preplanning advice to establish if this is theoretically acceptable. A radiator would need moving as well as adding ceiling lighting and plug sockets and I assume we would need to get an architect to draw up plans? Many thanks for any advice or things to look out for!
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi.
This is a pretty straight forward job to complete but does entail a fair amount of work.
You don’t need an architect but you will need a structural engineer and building regs.
Please let me know if this is help full and I can give a price for all required work at anytime.
Kind regards
Iain

What area do you live in it more than likely can be done under a thing permitted development were you do not need planning permission . If this was a new loft conversation you either need to send in detailed plans our have the building inspector to come visit that site at key points to have it signed off other wise when you sell the property it is only classed as a storage room and not a bedroom. As the loft is already converted you most likely will not need planning permission I could easily find this out from the local council if I was carrying out the job and would just have the building inspector come visit the job at certain stages. It's not a massive job and could be easily and quickly completed. Another option to increase the head room would be to lowers the floor as in drop the ceiling height on the ground floor that is if the height of it was decent .if you would like a detailed quote I would be happy to visit our if you want a quick rough estimate just send me a picture inside and out. Thanks ken

You should be able to do this but building control as the final answer on it. Is it on the back or front.
The rest moving everything is simple.
he is correct about regs and engineer
but to bring them together would involve structual works to roof and steals
it can be quite alot of work if u dont have correct tradesman doing job
