All structural work needs to comply with building regulations.
Building regulations should be applied for and works should be inspected by your local building control.

All structural works need to comply to Building Regulations, and you also need to have your beam designed by a Structural Engineer (Not a large cost) all the above will cover you should you ever move.
It does make the whole process a little longer but no-one should be telling you different..

Yes, definitely will need Building Notice from local LABC OR Private Independent Building Control. Building Regulations/ Notice Fee £250-£300, depending on Area.
Structural calculations can vary depending where you live and availability of Engineers.
Expect a cost to Visit Site plus cost per design. We have recently removed a chimney and total cost for Building Notice LABC (£250) Calculations by Engineer (£100) total £350.00
However I was able to provide Engineer with dimensions so no site visit was required, hence saved customer some money.
However if it’s straight forward removal , the Building Control can recommend a size of RSJ for requirement.
Once all approved you will receive Completion Certificate to proof all works confirm to Building Regs.

Can’t fault either of the above answers. If any other builders offer to do the work without an engineers report and building regs steer clear.
