Connect washing machine to fused spur

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.27 PM

Hi I have a fused spur switch in my kitchen and I want to wire my washing machine to it. How do I wire a regular plug to a fused spur please ? If I cut off the plug, would that cancel my warranty ?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If your washing machine is still under warranty and has a molded plug on it, a plug that you cannot take apart, do not cut it off as this will negate the warranty. If you are happy to cut the plug off it can be wired into the spur. If not the fused spur can be replaced with a single socket. In either case you should call an electrician to ensure that it is done correctly and safely. Regards John

Disconnect the washing machine flex from the plug top then install this into the LOAD side of the switched fuse spur. Make sure the circuit is isolated before carrying out, and check the fuse rating is 13Amps.

Cut of a regular plug, feed the cable through the hole or special notch and connect a cable to load side marks terminals.

You would have to either change the spur to a plug socket or cut the socket off and hardwire the appliance to the spur. If you do cut the plug off be aware that the warranty may become in valid

Hi, cut the plug and wire it on to load side. Use a flex outlet fused spur to make the job look neat and tidy. Use a 13amp fuse and isolate supply to the circuit before undergoing any work.
