45Amp Cooker Outlet Connection plate junction box

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.47 PM

Can a gas oven and a separate gas hob both be connected to a 45Amp Cooker Outlet Connection plate junction box? My gas oven and hob are currently plugged in using sockets. I have a cooker connection unit installed that looks like it’s a 45amp cooker outlet connection plate. Can both appliances be connected to this single cooker connection unit? Thanks in advance

No problem at all, I presume the gas oven and hob will just require electricity for things like ignition and clock therefore the power requirement will be minimal. It will just need connected with appropriate sized cable which an electrician can do for you.

I think the opp means can you use the electrics to power both the hob and oven. And the answer would be yes provided you changed the faces on the switches to 2 fused spurs and done correctly. As the cable is more then capable of running it. For the gas hob it would only be used the ignition and the gas oven just to run the control board and fan. Most likely 3amp on both fused spurs. You could connect both in to one connection point but the proper way to do it would be two separate points. So each can be isolated individually. It wouldn't mean a new cable but just altering the socket and downgrading the mcb in the consumer unit. As trying to make a radial socket from 6mm cable would be difficult.

Morena, As it's a gas oven & hob you'll only be using the power for the ignition and maybe some lighting in the oven, the 45 Amp cooker outlet will be more than adequate to be used for this. A Qualified & registered Electrician would be able to do this safely for you.

Hi Morena, It is recommended that each appliances should have their own isolation point regardless to how much power they use. connecting them in one 45amp connection point will not achieve that.
