Construction of a new driveway access

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.47 PM

My colleague and I are researching a property that we are seeking to bid on. However, there is no access of the roadway and the house is down a steep slope. there is planning permission for a new driveway but this is to allow for a high level off road parking which we are concerned is not ideal. We have an idea to knock down the existing garage which would allow access to the extensive back garden and to try and build a sloping driveway from the roadway down through to the back garden. A new garage would then be built in the back garden where there is plenty of space to do so. WE need advice however as to whether this solution would be practical to build. Can anyone assist please.

I wouldn’t feel comfortable advising on such a contract without first having a site visit

We would need to survey the area described to give a definitive answer , however we would recommend gradient of 1:8 as the maximum grade on the drive and ideally 1:10 if that could be achieved i am sure a new drive could be created. Best Regards John

It would all depend on the degree of slope and distance from road to house without looking you would have to take into consideration retaining each side and without no doubt install a drainage system to allow water run off with out seeing the job fully this is just advise hope it helps
