Moving sockets in brick walls

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.47 PM

I have a socket on the RH side of a door frame and I would like it moving to the LH side of the door frame. Can't go under the floor with the wiring so would an electrician just go around the door frame at right angles or something? Also can both remain if I wanted or do I have to loose a socket if I want to move one?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As long as the cable is kept within the zone , is house has an upstairs you could raggle the cable to up above then raggle back down to new socket. Depending is this socket is part of a ring circuit you could keep the original socket and spur of it, if the socket is already a spur then you would need to lose socket

You cannot under current regs go around the door frame this is not a prescribed zone. You would have to go vertically up through a loft space or floor void and then directly down to the location of the new socket. This would be acceptable. Any electrician should know this.

You can keep both sockets. If trunking is used then the cable will have to be secured with fire rated fixture, if is going to be buried in the wall then it can only go left, right, up or down and follow the permitted routes as per Building Reg. Other associated works may be required if the installation is not compliant with the current wiring regulation.

You can keep the original socket if it is part of a ring, but you could not run the feed for new socket around the door, a leg of cable would have to be run up to ceiling then dropped down otherside for the new socket
