Low/no hot water upstairs only

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.29 PM

Hi, The hot water pressure in my first floor bathroom is poor and sometimes never gets hot. E.g. sometimes I've run the tap and found that the combi boiler hasnt even fire up. Downstairs (where the boiler is situated) the hot water pressure is perfectly fine and always works. The combi (and mains-fed cold) did replace an old water tank and immersion eater system (that was previously located in the loft and first floor respectively). Am I right to suspect that the low flow is because the upstairs hot water is going against gravity. And is this low flow the reason the boiler sometimes doesnt kick in (as it doesnt have sufficient pressure to trigger the boilers heating mechanism)? If so, what can be done about it? Thanks, Harry

If your cold pressure upstairs is ok, it's probably the hot tap is faulty, try replacing them first, also check that if there's a service valve (ballofix) that it's fully open correctly.....hope this helps

When you experience a hot-water shortage throughout the house, you usually can blame the water heater, but when the shortage is only in one bathroom, it's probably the pipes. The problem could be a partially closed valve, a misadjusted faucet or a leak. You also simply may need more water pressure or an auxiliary water heater.

Hi If the flow of hot water is fine downstairs I/E kitchen, cloak room etc but poor upstairs check how much flow you have out of the hot tap in the bath in 30 seconds ( should be 5 litres minimum) If less check that all isolation valves are fully open,if poor flow still exists check to see if the tap is faulty you may require an plumber for this bit!! Good luck

Pressure should be roughly same upstairs as you are using combi at mains pressure Pressure and flow should have been checked and confirmed ok before installation You obviously have something restricting flow there for boiler not firing As others tap could be the problem otherwise unlikely but restricted flow in pipework All original pipework to tank would have been removed or isolated
