If you are cladding a staircase with engineered boards I would suggest that you use a sika flooring adhesive to glue the boards to the treads and the risers. You will also need a solid oak nosing to hide the edge of the ply wood edge of the engineered board on the tread.you can buy these online search for stair parts. The nosing can be stained to match the colour of the engineered board.

I would suggest to use MS polymer adhesive for cladding on stairs. Its can be any brand but MS will allow natural movement in wood such as expanding and shrinking. there are several ways how to clad stairs, the most common is to use nosing however it is possible to mitre wood plank and install without nosing. For the best result its better to clad with unfinished wood and/or nosing and once installed sand and finish it.

Hello, I have read this question and answers. I have recently completed a job installing this flooring and there are many different types of flooring and noses and trims ect. I personally use and recommend for staircases a laminate thread and risers. The threads come in 1 piece that you cut to size with the nose already attached and finished so NO need to try match colour with stain ect after and there is NO raised edge on thread/nose that you would get if you applied the nose after as this needs to lip over flooring, and also something that may come loose over time. These threads and risers come in a set and many different styles. There is a bit of preparation of the existing staircase beforehand. Your existing stair also has a nose, this needs to be a square edge to be able to fix the riser and thread to the step. You have 2 options, cut existing nose off or build up existing riser level with edge of nose using baton or ply. Once this is done you can then fix threads and risers, I use a strong wood glue and also fire a a couple of second fix nails in to the threads and risers, nails in risers are hidden by threads and nails in treads are hidden by risers. If you cut these to size nicely then you will be amazed with the transformation and finish of your new staircase. My customer also decided to use 3ď riser stickers of a water feature, again many different styles and look amazing, and when you decide to either change or remove them then it's a simple process and will transform your staircase all over again. MATERIALS; Baton/Timber (if not cutting existing nose off) Thread & riser - x number of steps Strong wood glue.

I would suggest to use polymer adhesive for cladding on stairs, It would be best to clad stairs using nosing, for the best result it is best sand to stain the nosing so it matches with how your stairs are installed.
