REPLACE RADIATORS BEFORE OR AFTER HARDWOOD FLOORING?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.29 PM

I have a couple of radiators that I want installed to replace ones I had removed. The pipe work is still sticking out of the floorboards. The radiators are roughly the same size as the originals (within 3 centimetres). My question is do I get the hardwood/laminate flooring done first and then the radiators or the other way round? Also do get a plumber or specifically a heating specialist for this type of job? Thank you for anyone who takes the time to respond. Phia

Hi I would recommend that you get the Radiators fitted first so that any adjustments to the pipe work is done under the floor boards. This way you only see the uprights above the flooring. A plumber or heating engineer will have no issues doing this.

I'd recommend that you dry hang the radiators first,(don't tighten the valves as they will need to be removed)to within as near as possible to your existing pipe work, adjust the pipe work as required as although 30mm doesn't sound very much, it could make the difference between whether the tails coming out from the floor are exactly vertical or not. Once you have the tails in the exact place, remove the radiator and valve to enable the hardwood floor with a 16mm hole in it to slip down over the pipe, it's a much neater finish, then rehang the radiators and tighten the valves. A plumber should be quite capable of this work as it does not require any gas work.

I would recommend you fit the new pipe work before the flooring is fitted so that you can alter the pipe work under the floor and make a neater job. However can also be altered after the flooring is fitted, just involves more risks.
