Artex still showing after being plastered

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.29 PM

I have just had my artex ceilings skimmed over. Now they are drying, I can still see the outline of the artex in some areas. It feels smooth and I have had the plasterer back round - who said that it’s usual for the outline to be shown and once it’s painted you will not be able to see it. Is this true?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Should be good once painted.

As long as the surface is smooth and uniformly level, this is acceptable for decoration.

Some outlines of artex show thru but after a couple of watered down emulsion coats all will be hidden and fine

If u can still feel the pattern underneath the fresh plaster then it'll need another coat(or two)of plaster.if it feels smooth but can still see the old pattern (artex)then it may be just the drying period and should go eventually. After a long enough period to let it dry out(approx 5-7day,depends of thickness of plaster over the top of artex)and the pattern is still showing try testing a metre section of your ceiling with 2 coats of normal standard bright white emulsion (add a little cold clean water to the emulsion on the 1st coat)let the fist coat soak in for a good hour until fully dry and then go over the same patch of ceiling with the same emulsion(pure emulsion"no water added)and hopefully it'll sort out the existing pattern showing through.hope that helps

Hi there, this is common with artex, as long as its flat and smooth to the touch it should be good once decorated. I always make sure to scrape back artex (always get it checked for asbestos first) to knock off high points and avoid the pattern showing through.
