Reopening a bricked up fireplace - installing electric stove
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.53 PM
Hi there, The fireplace in our living room has been boarded over and bricked up behind. We would like to have an opening made where the fireplace was for the insertion of an electric stove. We don't need the flue opening as the heat will come out of the bottom of the stove itself, and we don't want an open flame/ logburner. Would it be possible to do this? If so how long would it be likely to take? Thanks very much.

Hi, you can achieve this. The bottom of the chimney flue would need to be 'boarded up' and a vent fitted into it to allow the chimney to 'breathe'. The opening can be made and either lined with a suitable board, or it could be rendered, both options can then be decorated to suit your decor. The complete job should only take a maximum of 2 days, dependant on how the opening is finished.
Hope this helps.
Thanks, Steve
