Opening up the roof space - Roof joists
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.53 PM
Room size is 3m x 3.5m We wish to remove the ceiling to open up the space Roof joists are 2x4 (50mmx90mm), spaced at 1’ (300mm) Ridge height above ceiling level is 1m The roof joists are spaced too close together. My question is, can every two joists be removed, so that the new spacing is now 900mm apart? If not, can they be ‘sisterEd up’ so basically bolting two joists together to make them 100mm x 90mm)?

You’re in need of a structural engineer!
I wouldn’t be removing any of the roof timbers
Ceiling joists’yes’
Bracing maybe required??
