Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

Window has 1st layer is "dot and dab" plasterboard and then steel lintel and I need to fix vertical blinds using top fix brackets !!! I'm struggling with the drilling holes, please can someone advice what drill and bit is best to do this job?

Newer houses can have steel lintels so you would need to drill a pilot hole to check if it’s concrete or metal then the correct fitting could be used. Alternatively you could run a decorative batten to attach the blinds to as this could be fitted away from the lintel.

I would use a high speed sds hammer drill with a masonry drill bit new or second option is to look at fixing it to the reveals

Hss drill with self tapping screws or even better are the self driving screws available from Toolstation or Screwfix.

I would use a sds drill with appropriate drill bit size. Please bear in mind a sds drill is rather aggressive so may need next size up rawl plugs.
