Radiators Vs wet underfloor heating cost

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.53 PM

Just wanted advice regarding heating in an extension we are having. Just wondering what the difference would be in price to fit 2 tall radiators Vs wet underfloor heating in a 6x4m extension? Already got a quote from my builder for the build including radiators fitted, but I've asked if there would be much of a difference for wet underfloor heating which he's looking into but wanted an idea from someone on here also.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Costing will depend much on the floor construction. A basic manifold and pipework kit can be had from about £500 upwards, but you need to add zone controls additional pipework to the system primaries, distance to existing primary pipework and accessories to integrate the pipework into the floor. This will vary depending on whether it’s solid, floating or wooden suspended. There is a considerable amount of additional stuff to be considered if done properly. It would need to quoted by someone who is likely to do the job and is aware of the details, which is unlikely to be the builder themselves but a heating engineer.

Underfloor heating more expensive but you need to decide now. Cannot be done retrospectively. You ideally need a separate circuit on the heating system for it. It's a much nicer heat you should talk to a number of plumbers and get a few quotes rather than just one builder. Screed about 1,200, kit about 600, fit it 1,000 floor covering you need anyway. Brian

From my past experience underfloor heating is more costly to install and run. Don’t bother with it. It’s a waste of money and a luxury that you may not use.
