Is it ok to put trunking under surface mounted wall socket

Hi, I want to have all my double sockets moved and wiring replaced for the Bungalow ring final, but don't want the walls to be hacked into ruining the decoration. Is it ok to run trunking vertically beneath new surface mount pattresses and down to the floorboards through a slot cut into the skirting board, thus allowing for firm fixture of the trunking. I know it wont look as nice but i'm happy to live with it if it is ok with Regulations. New sockets to be situated off to one side of existing sockets to avoid drilling into existing buried cables. I'm thinking this way I can have it done in stages without too much disruption as I'm living in the place. Or am I mad. Once again, many thanks in advance. Simon

Hi Simon, As Max said as long as you can live with the council house rewire techniques everything's fine, I would advise that the new circuits are protected by at least 30mA RCBO circuit breakers to protect against unexpected impact/damage, I know most will say overkill but better safe than sorry, Hope this helps Andy

Andy from ATM has this answer spot on. Blue Electric regularly complete council house rewires and general adaptations for domestic dwellings that do not wish to have their walls chased out, trunking is a great alternative for this. Because the trunking is surface mounted and visible, there are few limitations as to where it can be run.

I've used "D" Line trunking for similar jobs. Looks a bit more aesthetically pleasing and can be painted.
