How to tell if a gas fire & gas hob are safe?

Looking for a bit of advice: I have just moved into a house where everything seems dodgy / broken and poorly maintained. The house has gas central heating, a gas fire and a gas hob. As part of the sale I was provided with a gas safe certificate for the heating but not for the hob or fire. Is it possible to arrange a gas safety inspection for the hob and fire? do such things exist? I don't know if there is anything wrong with them - but it would be good for piece of mind to know! Any advice is much appreciated as I have never lived in a property with gas before. Thanks!

Hi yes a safety inspection is needed, this will check for gas leaks, correct operation of appliances and a safety cert will be left.

Hi Allypally_47 Yes, such a thing does exist. In fact, I would go as far as saying it is probably best practice not to use the fireplace until it has been checked over by a Gas Safe Registered engineer. Open flue appliances can be dangerous if not serviced periodically. A local gas engineer would be happy to help you.

Hello my dear, I’m afraid the gas safety check means the gas engineer must check every appliance in the property. So I advise you, for your peace of mind, to call an engineer and do a new gas safety check Kind regards Mahmoud

All the above answers are correct and good advice, you do get a safety inspection for those appliances. Better safe than sorry, have them checked out but tbh unless you love the gas fire it's very inefficient and more for aesthetics. Have them checked before use.
