External window sill

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.07 PM

Front external window sill (possibly stone) needs painting. I can see several colours showing so need to rub it down. What do I paint it with?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, what I would suggest is removing the lose flaky paint. If it’s a stone window sill I would always recommend putting a masonry paint on it, but if it’s shiny there’s a good chance it has an oil based gloss on it so you would either have to remove the old paint and start a fresh or you could sand it to a solid base, then fill it with a 2 pack filler and use a product like zinzer all coats, this will Adhere to the surface, I’d say 3 coats as it’s self priming, all coats is a flexible system that has proved to be a great exterior system.

Scrape any lose flaking paint. Burn off if necessary and sand to a smooth finish filling where and if required. Normally 2 coats of masonry paint would be suffice depending on brand and colour choice.
