How do I work out the best order in which to make changes to a house?

A good general builder will help you with all the relevant trades and the order in which the jobs should be done.Things run a lot quicker and smoother with only the one ringmaster:)

Hi There, It is sometimes difficult to gauge exactly what the order of works should be but a schedule of works (SOW) should go someway to eliminate unnecessary waste and therefore bring the overall costs down or at least keep your costs in line with actual costs. We never doing any works until you have an SOW in place. This also help to ensure you can plan ahead and ensures no arguments with contractors further down the line. Judging by your question above, we would suggest, if you have more than 1 bathroom then start on the the bathroom first, because you will need water and waste supplies to the new bathroom, which can be extended from the existing bathroom. However if you only have 1 bathroom, than it would be better to work backwards from the new bathroom to the old . The boiler should be done somewhere in the middle, to minimise hot water disruption, due to winter weather. We would leave the kitchen works to the last, prior to decoration works, which should be done last.
