Fitting splash backs in kitchen
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.07 PM
Hi I hate the tiles in my kitchen, but don’t want to remove them and make a mess Just wondering about best options: Paint tiles , if so what’s recommended Or cover with splash backs and if so can this go behind an induction cooker Thanks
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi i think the best option is to remove the tiles as its not that messy as we always remove on sites they actually come off quite easily. But if you do not want them to be removed then yes you can put splashback on top but that would bring it more closer to hob and its heat.

Completely agree with Coalville you are better off taking the tiles off. And it isn’t that messy of a job if you take your time with it!

Agree with Coalville also but I think putting splash back over existing tile will look terrible. Something a DIY’er would do and it will never look professionally done, you would regret it.

Generally speaking the previous answer is fair, I would always try to remove existing tiles, depending on the age and condition of the plaster that has been tiled onto, you should be OK.
As regards putting the splashback behind any cooking surface, granite or glass etc is fine, it's in breach of regulations to install any combustible material behind a hob.
Hope this helps, Ian..
