Air admittance valve on toilet

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.07 PM

Hi I've had problems with my bathroom since buying my house. Home serve have been out today and said it's because I dont have an air admittance valve for the plumbing on my toilet, bath and shower as it's all connected. My bathroom is downstairs so my waste pipe goes under the ground. I've noticed on the bit of waste pipe coming out of the toilet theres a 40mm connection for a pipe, it is blocked off at the moment but wondered if I can connect a 40mm air admittance pipe to that or not? I wanted to attach a photo but cant. Thanks for any help

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Jorice. You don't say what exactly the problem is, that requires an admittance valve. Please add this to your question. That 40 mm connection is likely a spare socket for a sink waste etc.... would it solve your problem? Easy way to find out, try it. Regards, Bob.

I assume you are referring to gargling and bubbling noises??? If so it could be you need to add a air outlet, however I can’t say if it will fix your problem if fitted near w/c. A plumber needs to investigate the correct cause and location, and then possibly diagnose. Also then the air pipe is normally sent to the loft in case of any bad smells and gases returning to the room.

you could as long as it is above flood level of the wc,but you would do better to get a qualified plumbing drainage engineer to check it out for you.what problems have you been having ?.
