Tree distance from new extension
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.06 PM
How far the tree (5m high) should be from the boundary from the new extension (to be built) so that it doesn't affect the foundation depth? This is the tree we have got - https://www.chiefrivernursery.com/store/images/product/resize%20picea%20pungens.jpg , I think it is colorado blue spruce tree. Also, what is the minimum foundation depth in HA4 area? And just in case if we had to dig deeper because of the tree, how much deeper building control officer can ask us to dig?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes min any tree should be a minimum circa 5m from any foundation. Building control will need you dig until you reach “hard ballast level “ irrespective of whatever depth you may to dig to achieve the correct ballast level. I hope this helps any further problems call EnglisHaus chartered Architects.

We suggest you employ the services of a local qualified Structural Engineer to assist with the foundation design, piles may be an alternative to traditional trench fill foundations. Trees with Tree Preservation Orders (TPO) will require special protection. Regards David

It all depends on the type of tree, water table and ground conditions... Best if you instruct a good structural engineer..
