The wood on the side of the dormer windows, the vertcial sections, are coming away and on one side it seems as though sparrows are going in and out possibly building a nest. Is this a big job to repair/replace the wood? Thanks in advance for any advice.

no its not a big job ,but will require scaffolding, it can be replaced in p.v.c. which will reduce the need for further maintenance

ask the sparrows they will know exactly how bad the structure is internally then you can assess what is required ;

You would firstly need to remove the rotten boarding to further inspect if the timber that the dormer is built from is also rotten which would tell if it’s a big job or not. If only the boards are rotten it’s not all that big of job although the need for scaffolding will put the cost of the job up considerably.
