What is the best choice for a 1st floor bedroom flat? Neighbour's bedroom exactly under my bedroom!
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.06 PM
Hi all, I want to get rid of the carpet in my bedroom. It's a 3.4 mt x 2.56 mt approx (let's go with 9 sq.m) bedroom, lifting the carpet in one corner I can see the original wood planks with approx 3mm gap between them. Considering that the neighbour's bedroom is just below us, what is the best material to consider to prevent noise travelling downstairs? I was thinking engineered wood as read that laminate is the worst for noise? I'm lost! Thank you all guys!

I would plyline whole area , then use an acoustic underlay to help reduce noise and hollow feel, then finally lay your flooring over this ,

Hi , there are building regulations with regards to installing wood floors above your neighbours so check that first if I was you , you can get acoustic underlay though and use engineered wood , on the other hand you can fit carpet with a axifelt underlay which is rubber & felt .

Ply the whole floor are then use acoustic underlay. The choice of flooring will be greatly increased. Their are building regs regarding floors in multi floor accommodation, by using acoustic underlay you will meet the requirements. Their are some really good click flooring systems on the market with a wide choice of colours and styles that are very quiet to walk on and feel warm to touch
