Old cracked concrete patio - best value way to recover? Patio? Deck? Gravel?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

Hello! I have a 7600mm x 3260mm old concrete area in the bottom of my garden. I'd like to use it as a BBQ/seating area, as there are good views from that area. Half of the concrete is solid barring one large crack, the other half is breaking up quite a bit. There is a brick base underneath. What would be the best value way to do this area up? Decking? Patio? Gravel? I say best value because I would like to use natural type materials - something that won't look cheap and nasty in the future. We have had quotes of £2k to have the area patched and flagged with indian stone. This is our first house though, and we've got lots of jobs to do including re-doing the whole drive, so we were hoping to spend no more than £600. We don't mind having a go at doing it ourselves if its a simple job! Any suggestions or tips more than welcome. Thanks for reading. Natalie Update - we ended up patching the concrete ourselves with some ready mix stuff from B&Q, putting some sand down and then laying astro turf! Cost about £200. A few planters and it looks pretty. Thought we'd share as it was a good temporary solution for this summer, whilst we save up to have it paved properly.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

for an area that size over 24m2 you wont get much for 600 pounds ,2k was a good quote for indian sanstone ,even the cheap yard slabs work out around 15 pounds per sqm thats 360 then sand and cement thats 150 ,membrane edging stones ect so materials alone would be over 600 so good luck ,why not just paint kid on stones on the concrete lol

there is an option (not done this myself so unsure on costs but ive seen it and it looks nice) where resin is poured onto the drive/patio and small pebles which then stick to the resin and resin (i think) is again aplied to the top giving it a shiny gloss look.. http://www.resindrives.co.uk/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLQmJatNlpM

your most cost effective way would be decking, you do not say what size area is is so unable to give any idea on price
