Can I tile directly over wall paper?

Looking to tile the walls around the bath and basin area in the bathroom which is currently overlaid with wall paper. Can I tile directly over this or does the wall paper need to come off first?Tiler's already quoted £500 for the tiling (for just two walls and wondering if will still have to pay to remove the wall paper, plaster etc. Thanks in advance.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No you can’t tile on paper as the weight of tile will bring the paper of the wall, and also moisture from the adhesive

Never cut corners, Never lay wall tiles over wallpaper as You Will Pay the price down the road when they blow off/ come unstuck and will cost a lot more to put right. If you can’t afford to do the job (Right) now, then just wait until you can,
If you tile over wallpaper you may as well open the window and throw your money out of it.

Taking off wallpaper its a must before you lay wall tiles.
You should not tile over wallpaper, glossy surfaces, lead paint or plywood.
You can take the wallpaper off by using a wallpaper steamer or a painter's tray filled with hot water and a paint roller. Painted wallpaper will usually repel water, so scoring is key to aid penetration.

I would recommend removing the wall paper first then pva the walls before tiling
