Combi boiler Not Firing when using Bathroom Sink or Bath Taps

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.27 PM

I recently bought a house, day one of moving in went to have a shower and no hot water, checked the downstairs sink and hot water working. long story short the only way to provide hot water (getting the boiler to activate) is to run the hot water constantly in the kitchen. Obviously not ideal! Took me a while to realise that the bath taps have been installed Hot for Cold and Cold for Hot. Could this be an issue? I have hot water downstairs, in order to get hot water in either the sink or shower upstairs the kitchen hot tap must be on to engage the boiler.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If shower is a mixer type and feeds are in wrong sides then it's very possible that's why it's not giving hot water. I've seen this before. The bathroom sink though, if feeds were simply crossed you should still have hot water out of one of taps! Do you get hot water at bathroom.sink when running hot water in kitchen?

poor or restrictive pipework/taps/or shower, not letting enough flow so that boiler fires, check to see if debris in shower (filters) same for some new taps (filters),ball fix valves on services restrict flow if they are not full bore.

If the boiler is an ideal logic combi boiler I have known it to be a faulty hot water turbine and customers have had to have 2 taps running for hot water

If the mixer is a thermostatic type then if the hot water is going to the wrong side it will not work properly
