Bathroom Renovation...moving a toilet?!

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.27 PM

We live in a third floor tenement flat and are hoping to have our bathroom completely renovated. It’s long and narrow (1.1m x 4.4m) and the toilet sits on the back wall (which is an external wall). We have a shower over the bath and a sink on the left hand wall but essentially, if I were to overdo it on the chocolate oranges, I’d need to turn sideways to get up to the toilet!! 😊 We’d really like to make the top of the room a walk in shower and move the toilet to the left hand wall next to the sink. Scale of 1 – 500, how big of a nightmare is this? I know nothing about this kind of thing! Is it possible to have the waste pipe from the toilet going under the floorboards to get to the existing soil stack?? (if we were to have the floor built up a bit)? We’re obviously going to get a couple of folk out to take a look, but just want to have an idea so I don’t set my heart on something that’s going to bankrupt us! Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, sorry this question is impossible to answer as the job needs to be surveyed to be able to fully supply a quotation or any advice, I will only give advice when the works has been fully inspected by myself regards Keith

Same answer as Kew above. Need to do a site inspection firsthand. Most of us do a free call out to quote as well

It sounds possible, the biggest issue you'll have is drilling a new 5" hole out the external wall below floor level to take the toilet waste to the soil pipe outside. I'd be inclined to take the shower waste straight out the wall, and join into the stack separately though to insure your toilet flush doesn't end up coming back through your shower waste! Obviously the only way to be certain is take a few floorboard up and survey it properly.

Depends on what way the joists run you might be lucky and lay the soil pipe under the floorboards however if they run the wrong way you would have to build the floor up by around 140 mm.
