Plastering & Rendering

whats the difference between sand and cement or plasterboarding the interior house walls?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.27 PM

I would like to know what the main differences and benefits are between sand and cementing the interior walls or plasterboarding and then skimming on top. Which one would you recommend for a 3 bed semi detached house?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Plasterboard is generally faster and easier to install than sand & cement and results in an overall construction that weighs less. Some plasterboard can also be used to increase thermal insulation.. Sand & Cement gives the wall structure and increase, strength and the durability. Both building materials can be skimmed over in their correct manner.

Just to add something, British Gypsum guarantee their plaster on their products, so if the plaster starts to divorce its self from their plasterboard you can call the rep around and be compensated, however if you use their plaster on render then the guarantee is void.

In general sand an cement render is used to help towards damp prevention an is alot more hard wearing than plasterboard. Tho in today's world plasterboard is used on most new builds it is alot less time consuming an easier to work with. The drying times are alot less too compared to sand an cement which in turn will save money an time on the job duration
