replace basin with mixer tap

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.29 PM

Hi. I have a basin with two taps, and I will like to replace it with mixer taps. Do I need to change the basin or something can be done to have mixer tap on that existing basin? Thanks in advance. Update: Thanks everyone. I am just worried that replacing the basin might mean it will damage the bathroom tiles. Another Update (if others are in same position as me): It seems there are some "bridge basin mixer" available which will do the job without replacing the basin. I have not yet measured it or have not yet gone to the shop to look at it, but a google search shows it should work.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The ideal solution is that the whole basin needs replacing with one hole to accommodate a mono bloc mixer, but if the holes are big enough you could blank one hole off and use the other, I personally would only advise to replace tap and basin for a more pleasing aesthetic look.

You can get 22mm mixer taps (most are 32mm) and a blank plastic chrome effect bung to seal of the unwanted whole

Although it is physically possible to use the existing basin and seal the unwanted void with a cap, it would be quite unsightly unfortunately. Therefore the best thing to do would be to change the basin as it would look a lot better aesthetically.

It is possible to do but it is very unsightly and not a job I'd under take if asked by a customer. If a mono tap is your desire then I'd advise a new basin. If your looking for another solution I'd advise getting a nice pair of basin taps as this solution would mean you don't need to re-tile or patch plaster. I hope this helps

It wouldn’t look right having a mixer tap in a 2 hole basin, it would be over to one side with the other hole blanked off. Best to replace the basin with one that has a single tap hole in the center.
