Tiles colour smudged and faded. Edges all faded.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.29 PM

I recently got my bathroom done and retiled however the colour on tile floor and wall is smudged and faded looking. Floor tiles look like something has been spilled on them but its actually the tile. Is it poor quality tiles?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi it's might be the tile grout not been clean on time so please try to clean it properly with the good quality grout remover liquid, hopefully it work. Thanks

Hi, it depends what tile it is. Sometimes the grout could stain the tile if that tile needed sealing before grouting. If it is a ceramic tile and didn’t need sealing it could be the grout residue that hasn’t been cleaned properly.

It sounds like you have unsealed tiles and the wrong grout has been used, if you have tried a sponge/ nylon scourer and it hasn’t cleaned them go to Topp’s tiles or similar and they can supply the cleaner, it will help if you take a tile and the grout bag, good luck, if you did use a tiler give him a chance to put it right.

It sounds like you need tile stain remover and seal them but to be honest the colour never comes back on certain tiles manufacturers should specify if tile needs sealing.

It's possible you have used the wrong grout and scratched the tile, or grouted a pourous tile before sealing them. Or used a dark adhesive on a light coloured tile. Reason could be numerous

Hi do not think it is the tiles unless they are travertine they can stain easily most likely it is the grout some can dry very quickly so if not washed off fast could lead to staining without seeing the job it is difficult to give a definitive answer
