Can I change from 7 panel bay window to fewer panels?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.28 PM
I am looking to replace some old PVC-U windows throughout my house. The upstairs and downstairs bay is quite large and consists of seven panels which are 600mm wide each. Might it be possible to reduce the number of window panels to say six, or is it generally the case that this should be replaced like-for-like? The other houses all seem to have seven panels. Cheers.

The only issue is that the bay window would slightly alter in the fitment. But if you as to get a uPVC company in the the can assess the structure above the bay window and below it and see how it would fit in. But generally like for like is easier but it can be done. Ring a few companies and ask them to come and price it up and see what they suggest.

Hi. No it isn’t possible to change the number sections on a bay. The sections (in your case 7) are worked out to go across the width of the bay “around” the angle. Reducing the section number from 7 to 6 and therefore increasing the width of each section from 600 to roughly 700 would “throw the angles out” and it would not work.
The only time it is possible to change the amount of sections would be on a right angle bay across the front.
Kindest regards

Hi there in regards to changing amount of segments in a bay window . I wouldn’t think this would be idea for a couple of reasons , the cill overhang could be compromised and could cause water ingress , also the point of load in between segments would in effect change You might not have anything for you bay pole jacks to load of regards

It all depends, If you mean the bay window has 7 seperate window frames that butt up to each angle point then it has to stay the way it is. But if it is just the glass that is split into 7 then yes you can change it. Hope that helps thanks JCM WINDOWS

Its possible but not advisable. You would be going from a simple like for like job to structural alterations alot of building work involved in doing this. The cost would be majorly increased.
