How long is a quote valid

Hi I am undergoing a major decoration project on my house several trades have been hired and came out to provide quotes. I like to get quotes a couple of months in advance for big jobs sometimes the tradesman are eager to start but sometimes the job I want doing is in the budgeting/ planning stage. Would getting quotes 4-6 months in advance make a tradesman lose interest would they be happy to wait

As a Builder providing quotes for over 40 years quoting for work 4-6 months in advance is fine but if we were providing material and theres any doubt of an increase in the cost of material we would explain this to the customer and provide an estimate

If it's a Labour only quote 3 months if it's a material and labour quote 2 months has material prices go up all the time but to be fair the customer to say roughly how long he wants to work to start so you can budget in any price changes that may occur over the following month's

I think it is fair to ask for price for future works. I would give a labour cost valid but show customer breakdown of materials and again 2 weeks before start date and show if increased.

Personally, my labour quotes are valid 6 months however if materials are required then these costs are only valid for a month as that's what my supplier gives me. This would be made clear to the customer when the quote is emailed through, Hope this helps Sean.

Labour only quotes I give three months but if materials are to be supplied by us then I give two months because of price changes. As long as there is clear communication at the start then it’s normally fine.
