Foul smell from Washing Machine waste pipe sporadically?

Water in the trap is being sucked out when something else is draining. It needs an air admittance valve on the waste pipework

Hi, the issue may be that gunge and crude accumulated in your waste pipe and it's needing a good clean out. If you feel confident about diy, then take the stand pipe trap apart and flush the parts thoroughly in hot water. Purchase a brush for cleaning babies bottles and push this through the parts of the trap to dislodge anything left over. Reassemble the trap and refit it to your waste pipe and pour a capful of undiluted washing up liquid into it. Fill a few kettles of boiling water and pour several down inside the trap and this will remove any grease from the main waste pipe. Do this once a week with your kitchen sink plug hole without taking the trap apart and you'll eliminate blocked sinks. The drain hose coming from your washing machine is exposed in the standpipe and can smell when discharging depending on whatever is being washed at that time. I always fit a Mcalpine Domestic Appliance Stand Pipe Twin Connector ( Waste: V33WM) to any stand pipe. This allows air to be drawn into the pipe and for foul smells to be withheld. Do an online search for a supplier and this is a very easy part to fit yourself. It will eliminate any smells. Please fit a metal hoseclip or jubilee type clip to your waste hose to thoroughly secure it and ensure that the hose connector that is not being used is blanked off with the blank provided.
