Removal and replacement of metal door frames in ex-council house

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.06 PM

Hi Self-explanatory really, I know many of you will advise against it but I want to remove and replace the metal door frames in my house. I plan to move the location of some of them or get rid of them entirely for an archway. I'm also not planning to do this all at once, rather room by room as I can't live in the chaos and prefer to get a room finished at a time. My question is what should I expect to pay for this kind of work? I'm not going to change my mind!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Vicaroo, hope you doing well? It sounds like bit messy project, but definitely achievable. To remove existing metal door frame and repair the wall it was attached to would be in my opinion around £200-250/frame approx. It all depend on the time frame required to remove it and fix the damaged wall behind it. I hope it help you a bit. Regards Mark

I totally agree with McMark Fabrication. From my experience with metal frames, a lot of damage is caused whilst removing them as the are usually buried in the wall and sometimes have to be cut out. Regards Michael

why not grind the door and window frame away with a 1mm grinder blade. You will use a few blades and it will take a little while but no damage to brickwork that way and just fit new windows into existing aperture best wishes Tim Hayes Conservatory roof renew

Hi. Getting rid them entirely is of course easy enough and all of the making good is simple enough although there will be a little mess of course..... your idea of doing one or two at a time would at least localise the disruption. However repositioning them? This would need consideration and clarification as to whether any of the walls are load bearing and if internal lintels maybe needed if opening positions were to be altered beyond simply removing and making good. This discovery process is simple enough but would need attendance to the property for a survey of the required work for clarification of this and advice based on the findings.
