gurgling sound from radiator followed by pipe braking

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.06 PM

Hi Everyone! Our radiator had been making gurgling sounds and was colder at the top, so I presumed some air had gotten into the system and needed to be bleed. We haven't had time to get around to fixing it, so we've left it for about a month. This morning, we were woken up to radiator fluid spraying out out and the pipe that connects directly to the radiator has been broken off. Would this of been caused by air trapped in the system? Or is it because our radiator was old? We also had building works done about 1 month ago, where they had to move one radiator (not the one thats had the problem). After they took that radiator off, we noticed that they were cold on the top. Would anything they would of done contributed to the bust or the air in the system? Or is it just coincidence? Thank you for your help!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

it may have been air in system from changing rad, they should have got their plumber to bleed and balance all rads after the work was done, unless they touched the leaking rad it is doubtful they caused the problem, when you drain and alter old central heating systems you disturb the sludge rust and scale in the system, this can block pipes valves and rads,in old unprotected systems it is the corrosion that produces the gas that people think is air in the rads, get your system checked by a qualified heating engineer.
