Safe to make large hole in existing kitchen cabinet for cooker hood ducting
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.06 PM
Hi there, I was wondering if its possible to make a large hole for cooker hood ducting in an existing wall mounted upper kitchen cabinet (above kitchen counter) to bring the duct out to a nearby external wall? Would it affect the strength of the cabinet too much? the cabinet is standard issue Howdens - melamine I presume. thanks

Should be totally fine Howdens units come with to steel plates which unit hooks onto and also a rail roughly 70mm up from bottom of wall unit that you can "Dead fix" to wall with screws.
To reinforce the cabinet and tidy things up internal, depending on colour Howdens should be able to supply a shelf that you can cut and box in to hide the ducting and also strengthen the unit back up .
Hope this helps
