New House certificate?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

I have just bought a new house and am looking at the electrical installation certificate. It is dated 17/06/19 but the certificate is done to 17th edition. I thought the 18th Edition came into force in Jan 2019? The only thing that highlighted this was my wife tried to switch the extractor fan on in the kitchen and it wouldn't work. Upon further investigation she found bare/not terminated cables inside the extractor. Nicely tested I thought and really safe.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi 18th edition came into force January 2019. Check with issuer? It is not practical to access all joints, enclosures during inspection. The report should indicate level of sampling taken.

Hi there The electric installation certificate is just for the new wiring or if you upgrade your fuse box for your house as you said this certificate expire in June then if you want to make sure is still safe to use you need to get EICR which is for existing and fixed wiring. Also if you have some problems with the wiring you need to hire the qualified electrician to investigate and find fault . Some time this kind of fault what you describe is not related by safety but definitely you need to solve it because some times loos connection cause to big problem and electric shock or fire. Also some part of 18th edition are not compulsory for domestic installation and existing wiring but when you get EICR you know what you need to do if need any additional job. All the best

Hi, The electrician only tests to the point of supply, if does cables are inside the extractor then it’s a faulty equipment. Nothing to do with the installation. Thanks Vitor

Is it an EIC cert or an EICR cert? Is your new house a new build or a newly purchased older house. I ask as their are some rather confusing answers to a slightly confusing question.
