Are Comfort 1 RF thermostats usually quoted for separately

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

Good afternoon, hope you can advise. Accepted plumber's quotation for replacement boiler 1/5/2019 which was duly fitted later that month. Today on the 12/12/2019 the plumber decides to invoice separately for the room temperature thermostat (Honeywell) which I assume is the 'Comfort 1 RF built in programmer and thermostat' mentioned in his quotation that he said he would supply and fit. Are they one of the same? Also, as the boiler is a Worcester why did he not install the same brand? Presumably now if anything goes wrong with the room temp control it won't be under a warranty?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Andrea-h. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Assuming you contacted a professional Gas Safe Engineer. You would have had a written quotation detailing the work and have been given a receipt for your money, by law allegedly. If you are not sure then contact Trading Standards and the Gas Safe Register people for further advise. I believe the Gas Safe origination have inspectors who can come and check an installation where the customer is thinking something is wrong... free, allegedly. Inland Revenue can fine a trader up to £2000 for every proven offense of not supplying a customer with a receipt, allegedly. Most likely it's just a simple misunderstanding. Regards, Bob.

Hi If I give a quote it usually details the controls and it is in with the quote as all included, but we would never add on at a later date. different makes are used such as salus as cheaper alternatives but the warranty on add ons are different to the boiler anyway regardless of make

If there was no agreement to supply the specific thermostat as a replacement at the contract stage then the installer is entitled to charge for the new thermostat as variation to the original contract. The contractor should consider the requirements for the boiler installation and the need for a thermostat if there was not one on the original installation. Therefore it is down to what was specified in the agreement before the job started and what is required for the installation taking into consideration the location of the boiler in relation to the original thermostat as a basic thermostat is a different price to that of a remote thermostat. To conclude, if there was no original room thermostat then the installer must install one for the new boiler to comply with the regulations and the manufacturers recommendations and a remote thermostat is less work to install so he would not be entitled to charge separately for a thermostat. A little heavy handed. To sort this a polite email to installer explaining stat already included - customer happy. Installer needs to be clearer in future
