Plastic or copper external pipes water inlet for washing machine?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.26 PM

I need to install a second washing machine in the extension part of my home. Im unable to fit it next to the existing one and only have available space quite a distance away from existing machine and plumbing. For this I have had someone take cold water supply from an existing garden tap (T-off) using 15mm plastic pipe. This has been screwed against the wall pretty low to the ground. Should I worry about insulating it? Or would copper pipes have been better?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Plastic pipe should be fine if done properly if the area the pipe is in is likely to get cold below freezing then insulation required for plastic or copper If in doubt no harm in installing for your own peace of mind Regards Tony

To be honest it should of been piped up from an internal pipe, even if it had to be run from another part of the house, external pipe work can always be subject to freezing and should be lagged, your outside tap should have an internal shut off valve fitted for isolation in the winter, but this would probably also now shut off your w/m. I don’t think your plumber has thought this through.
