Is it possible to have working fire downstairs without affecting decorative fireplace directly above upstairs?

There is no problem with this, the two fire places will have separate chimney flues that join togeather in the loft and the exit the roof. Hope this helps it's a bit hard to explained lol

all fireplaces have their own flues that run along side of each other and terminate next to each other on the roof
