Bottom of 1 road cold top half warm

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.46 PM

1 radiator in my house bottom half is cold but top half Luke warm. It is brand new rad replaced with an old one to see if problem went away. IV turnt all the valves off rest of the system and left this one open on both sides but the problem still there. It is microbore system so could it be blocked pipe? Rest of the radiators are fully working. UPDATE: Thank you for those who answered. I had a go draining the system down, flushed the radiator out (clean, only 2 months old) and cleaned out the dirty black F&E tank. Refilled it and the radiator is fully working, even the flow pipe is too hot to touch where before you could hold onto it. So my theory is maybe stick some x400 or x800 and do another flush out?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi. Looks like you already know the answer. Microbore can block with sludge easy or even by a tiny blob of it. Flushing the whole system can be non effective because it needs to flow in a pipe in order to clean / flush it through. Best bet is to have the pipes to that rad changed. If this is extra difficult then it may be possible for a plumber to cut both ends and run water under pressure through each pipe... could be messy and ineffective. However, logic says that the block if likely at a point where the tube becomes restricted... ergo:- at the point where the valve olive connects and crushes the tube or where there is a 90 degree elbow or straight solder joint normally directly under the valve... solder may have entered and restricted the hole size during being soldered and over time collected some debris. I myself would have the valve disconnected from the copper pipe and any joints inspected at this point by a plumber who can then reconnect or replace this section as required. Just some idea's. Bob.

It sounds like you have a Partial blockage in a pipe. It might be sludge or Solder best thing to do is get it power flushed the WHOLE SYSTEM.

you could also try draining the system and using a foot pump on the flow and return of the radiator to see if that clears the blockage to the manifold. powerflushing can help but with microbore the best long term solution would be to repipe the system to larger pipe.
