Damp Proofing

Is it normal for a wall to be tanked and not be treated with DPC injection cream?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.51 PM

Hi, I have just purchased a one bedroom basement flat (approximately built in 1880). Based on advice given to me by a surveyor I have had a number of damp proofing companies come view the flat to quote for remedial work on rising damp. Pretty much all the companies have suggested a combination of DPC injection cream and tanking/membrane to each of the walls where damp was identified. One company however differs in that they suggest DPC injection cream plus tanking/replastering to two internal walls and tanking/replastering only to the external walls. When I asked them why DPC was not being used on the external walls, they said that the walls were likely to be made of bungaroosh - treatment of which should be (cementitious) tanking/replastering and that DPC injection cream should not be used. Would you agree with this statement? Kind regards, Alex

Hi Alex I agree with the latter quote...Do not Dpc these external walls that are constructed of Bungaroosh! They will not take to injeccting and are made up of bits n pieces of brick, flint and looks like rubble.....Im thinking you maybe live in Brighton or Hove! Maybe google this question and im sure you will get more answers to your question and concerns. Good luck Scott Cannon.

Hello _ I would suggest you get a surveyor who is both CSRT and CSSW qualified to inspect the area. Go to the Property Care Associations Website and look for a contractor member in your area who has a CSSW qualification - insist on this as this is a "Structural Waterproofing" surveyor - They have been through rigorous testing and background experience and will really know their stuff. We have been to too many jobs where a non specialist has wateproofed an underground room and it has failed. Go to an expert ! Good luck
